Johnny West and Cheif Cherokee were engaged in a continuos and on going war when I was a kid. They survived firecrackers(dynamite), real gun attacks (my daisy BB gun),and a mauling by a wolf (my friends dog), but at the end of each day they survived to fight again. I had two horses with them, Flame and Thunderbolt. Flames tail broke and ny father put in a Crown Royal silk tassle as a tail and it looked great. Like so many of my toys, they ended up at the church bazaar at St. Thomas Anglican's Fall sale in November in Montreal. If they are not in a land fill somewhere, I am sure they are still intact and fighting. The only things that broke, was the lid on Johnny's strong box.

I remember seeing a doll like this in the Sears Roebuck catalog when I was a kid and I wanted it so much. There was also a cowboy and a horse and each figure had alot of accessories to dress them up in. I never did get that for Christmas. I think my mom thought it was a boy toy. It was fun looking at these images. It brings back memories of childhood.

I was knocked down by a car in 1968 (Ford cortina mark 1, I think)Heart stopped no breathing, a local chip shop owner got the heart going again and a dental student, as far as I was told done CPR. After a week in a coma I awoke and was given a Johnny West figure by my Father and Mother. Its one of my best memories in my life I have ever had. After a long stay and learning to walk again Johnny West was the best toy I ever owned. To me, age 49 now, Johnny West was`nt only a toy `he` was a life saver!

Tonight I was looking around my house for something to give as a gag gift at an upcoming company holiday party and found my old Geronimo action figure. I began thinking about how amazing it is that he survived my childhood and still has most of his accessories. I remember swinging him around by the leg wondering if he'd come apart, and he never did. My son picked him up and began dressing him up with his head-dress, mask, and arrows. I wondered if he'd survive a second generation of rough play ... I guess I'll keep him a while longer.
